Friends of Fairview Branding
Friends of Fairview is a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, IN. They host an annual fundraising event, Stories Behind the Stones, in which they re-enact the stories of the people buried in Fairview Cemetery.
During my internship at Friends of Fairview, I created a brand for the organization. This included creating a logo, brand standard, business card, a letterhead, and then redesigning their website to fit their new brand.
Making the Logo
The Friends of Fairview logo was the first brand element I created. As an iconic symbol of the organization’s mission, my client wanted the Fairview Cemetery gate to be a prominent feature in their logo. This became a challenge during the design process. Since the gate is very ornate it quickly loses detail when scaled down. To address this issue, I created a wordmark that can be used on a smaller scale.

Creating the Brand Standard
After creating the logo, the next step of the branding process was the brand standard. I based most of my design choices on the historical context of both the Friends of Fairview and the Fairview Cemetery. The fonts and colors that were chosen for this brand were picked for their vintage aesthetic, such as a Victorian-style primary font and a muted color palette to reflect age.

Adding to the Brand
The designs for the business card and stationery I kept simple and interactive. Since members of Friends of Fairview would be using these documents regularly, I wanted to make sure they had a positive user experience.

Updating the Website
In this stage of the branding process, I redesigned the Friends of Fairview website to match their new brand. In addition to updating the color scheme and fonts used, I created background elements and photograph filters to stay consistent with the vintage theme of the brand.

Strengthening Social Media
After my internship ended in May 2023, I stayed with the Friends of Fairview as a volunteer graphic designer. During this time, I've created a series of Facebook graphics promoting the 2024 Stories Behind the Stones.
